Indiana Teacher PD Requirements (2026)

90 hours every 5 years for teachers

Source

Primary source: IDOE Professional Growth Plan (PGP) page + Current Indiana Educator renewal guidance. 1 PGP = 1 clock hour. Two license terms exist (5-year Practitioner, 10-year Professional) with the SAME 90-point requirement — the cycle_years figure here reflects the more representative 5-year Practitioner. Educators holding the 10-year Professional License have a less rigorous per-year rate. Other PGP totals exist for specialized roles (40 for Initial-to-Practitioner conversion, 36 for Educational Interpreters, 40 for Career Specialist Permits) but are not the standard renewal figure.

Indiana uses Professional Growth Points (PGPs) for license renewal — 90 PGPs per cycle. 1 PGP = 1 clock hour of approved professional development. Standard cycle is 5 years (Practitioner License); experienced educators may hold a 10-year Professional License with the SAME 90-point requirement (so effectively half the per-year rate). Six semester hours of coursework at an accredited Indiana institution is an alternative path. If working in an Indiana school, the PGP is verified by the principal/superintendent; if not, the educator must upload supporting documentation to LVIS. Initial Practitioner to Practitioner conversion is a separate 40-point step.

Administrators hold a Professional Educator License (Building Level Administrator, Director of Curriculum, Superintendent, etc.) and follow the same 90-PGP / 5-year cycle.
