Oklahoma Teacher PD Requirements (2026)

75 hours every 5 years for teachers

Source

Primary source: Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE). The Option I employment-verification path is extremely teacher-friendly — actively teaching educators do NOT need to track or report any PD hours. The 75-hour Option II only kicks in for teachers with gaps in employment, out-of-state moves, or other non-standard situations. This is one of the lowest-burden renewal frameworks in the nation for active teachers.

Oklahoma Standard Teaching Certificate renews every 5 years. Two renewal paths: Option I (employment verification) — if the teacher taught in an accredited OK school for at least 3 of the 5 years the certificate was valid, NO professional development documentation is required. Option II — 75 clock hours of professional development during the renewal period. One graduate credit hour = approximately 15 clock hours of PD, so 5 graduate credits fully satisfies the 75-hour requirement. PD may be district-provided training, university coursework, or approved PD programs. Renewal application can be submitted starting January 1 of the expiration year.
