Alaska Teacher PD Requirements (2026)

90 hours every 5 years for teachers

Source

Primary source: Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED). AK is one of several states that allows multiple equivalency pathways (college credit, CEUs, micro-credentials, non-academic) within a single renewal credit framework. The pre-approval form for non-academic credit is a noteworthy administrative step. 6 credits is the universal requirement regardless of cert type.

Alaska Type A Regular Teacher Certificate renews every 5 years. Required: 6 renewal credits per 5-year cycle. One renewal credit equals: 1 semester hour college credit, OR 1.5 quarter hours college credit, OR 1 continuing education unit with minimum 15 contact hours from an approved provider, OR 1 micro-credential with minimum 15 contact hours, OR 15 hours of non-academic credit (requires pre-approval form). 6 credits × 15 contact hours = 90 contact hour equivalent.
