Teachers
Renewal model
No fixed PD hour requirement
— 5-year cycle Hawaii uses a performance-based renewal model — fundamentally different from most states. Teachers renew every 5 years by submitting a satisfactory evaluation from their school of employment during the term of the license being renewed. NO minimum PD clock hours are required for renewal. Standard License = 5 years; Advanced License = 10 years (requires advanced degree, National Board cert, OR designated Hawaii Teacher Leader status). Teachers may still pursue PD for salary advancement, but it's not a renewal requirement. The framework: "Did I get a satisfactory evaluation?" not "How many PD hours have I logged?"
Counselors
Renewal model
No fixed PD hour requirement
— 5-year cycle School counselors hold an HTSB license and follow the same performance-based renewal model — satisfactory evaluation from employer during the license term, no minimum CE hours required.
Administrators
Renewal model
No fixed PD hour requirement
— 5-year cycle Administrators hold an HTSB Administrator License and follow the same performance-based renewal model — satisfactory evaluation, no minimum CE hours required. Advanced License (10-year) requires additional documentation: advanced degree, National Board cert, or designated Hawaii Teacher Leader status.
