Idaho Teacher PD Requirements (2026)

90 hours every 5 years for teachers

Source

Primary source: Idaho SDE Educator Certification. Idaho expresses requirement in credits (6) rather than hours, but 1 sem credit = 15 contact hours by the state's own conversion, yielding 90 hours equivalent. The 3-credit transcript minimum forces at least half the renewal to be formal coursework — districts cannot fully satisfy renewal via in-service alone.

Idaho Standard Instructional Certificate renews every 5 years. Required: 6 semester credits of professional development within the cert validity period. At least 3 credits must appear on a college/university transcript; up to 3 credits may be Idaho district/charter/private-school in-service hours (15 contact hours = 1 semester credit). Credits must be tied to: (a) pedagogical best practices, (b) administrative/teacher leadership, OR (c) a specific area of need designated by district administration. 6 credits × 15 hours = 90 contact hour equivalent. Transcripts/in-service forms emailed to [email protected] as PDF.
