Oregon Teacher PD Requirements (2026)

125 hours every 5 years for teachers

Source

Primary source: Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC). The current PDU reporting suspension (through June 30, 2029) is a major operational quirk — teachers technically still owe the PDUs but don't have to report them at renewal during this window. This is unusual and time-bounded; we should re-verify this rule annually as the 2029 deadline approaches.

Oregon Professional Teaching License renews every 5 years with 125 PDUs (Professional Development Units). Preliminary Teaching License (3-year) requires 75 PDUs. 1 PDU = 1 clock hour. IMPORTANT CURRENT-STATUS NOTE: TSPC has SUSPENDED state-level PDU reporting for all licenses expiring through June 30, 2029. PDU reporting will be reinstated for licenses expiring on or after July 1, 2029. During the suspension window, teachers do not have to report PDUs at renewal time, though they should continue to document professional development. If license expires on/after 7/1/2029 without evidence of minimum PDUs, license reverts to Substitute Teaching License.
